An Edoid ethnic group, the Edo or Benin people are mostly located in Edo State in the southern region of Nigeria. They are descended from the Benin Empire’s founders and speak the Edo language. They are closely related to other linguistic ethnic groups that include the Esan, Afemai,Isoko, and Urhobo who also speak Edoid languages.
